Cooking at the Club is a new series of events where we’ll aim for everyone to learn, and to share their skills. If you’re new to cooking, or cooking Croatian food, come along and give it a go. If you’re already a great cook, come and help out. All are welcome, members or not. This […]
The capsicums are cheap, so it’s time to make ajvar! Just like with last year’s bread session, we’ll try a couple of recipes, everyone can have a go, and we’ll try some food at the end. Josip and Nada Kolić have shared their family recipe (capsicums only) and we’ll do another recipe with eggplant to […]
We had 25 people join us for ajvar in May, so it’s time to make some ćevapi to enjoy with it! We’ll be making two different types of cevapi, and maybe some bread to go with it, along with ajvar and sliced onions. There will be no participation cost, as the Executive has decided that […]
People asked for some sweets, so we’ll be making a Croatian and NZ version of a similar slice/cake (Londoneri and Louise Cake). The NZ version is Louise cake (shortbread-like base, covered in raspberry jam, with a coconut meringue on top). Louise cake is world famous in NZ and some sources suggest it is NZ-created. In […]
Come along on Sunday 24 August at 2-4pm to enjoy fritule, a traditional Dalmatian festive dessert, often cooked at Christmas. Fritule are one of the most requested recipes we’ve had for Taste of Croatia, so come down this Sunday when Danica Rudelj will be sharing her recipe! Danica will be making her dough beforehand, which […]
The Club will have a stall at SlavFest, a festival dedicated to Slavic and Balkan culture, food, traditions, music and dance. We will be selling homemade and Croatian goods, and promoting the club.
The next Taste of Croatia session will feature Chelsea Ljutić, a Canadian Croatian who is here in NZ on a working holiday visa. She chatted to us at SlavFest and later offered to share her nona’s njoki recipe - we said yes immediately :) The session will be run from 2-4pm on Sunday 12 October. […]
This month our focus will be on two of our top sellers at SlavFest: arancini - not the Italian rice balls, but the candied orange strips from Dalmatia - Kat Henderson will show us her approach, and you can try it at home. Croatian sour cherry/plum cake (Kolač s Višnjama) - Phil Guerin will make […]
Dave’s frozen octopus pack has arrived, so he’ll be running a Taste of Croatia session that will create the octopus salad served at our last Christmas lunch. Toby Barach has also offered to bring a BBQ to fry off some tentacles for a different flavour (Dave only has two arms, unlike an octopus…). Attendance is […]
Join the Croatian Club for an evening with Helena Nuić, a Kiwi-Croatian chef who divides her time between Croatia and NZ. Doors open at 5.30pm (tea, coffee and the bar will be available), with the main event from 6.30pm-7.30pm. This special A Taste of Croatia event is open to anyone with an interest - you […]
