DESCRIPTION:Our beloved Language Café for 2025 will take place from 3-5pm on the last Saturday of each month in 2025.\n\nOur wonderful language teacher Maja Krtalić is happy to share her knowledge with and help those that would like to  learn more about and to practice speaking the Croatian language (Hrvatski jezik).  People of all language abilities is welcome to come along – it is great to see Club members sharing their knowledge and learning together. \n\n\n3:00pm – 3:45pm – Fun and learning for the children\n4:00pm – 5:00pm – Language class for adults of all abilities.\n\nPlease come along to your session 10 minutes early to grab a drink and get settled in so we are seated and ready to go at 3pm or 4pm.  There is no cost to attend\, however you are most welcome to bring a plate of afternoon tea or snacks to share.\n\nWe will likely change some days if they clash with public holidays or other events. Other events are sometimes scheduled after Language Cafe\, and the bar is usually open.

DESCRIPTION:We had 25 people join us for ajvar in May\, so it’s time to make some ćevapi to enjoy with it! SUMMARY:SGM to Consider Life Membership for Ivan Sarich
DESCRIPTION:At our last Special General Meeting (SGM) we voted to award Life Membership to two very special people\, Milivoy Hrstich and Joan Barbalich. \nAt the meeting\, the Committee let the membership know that they were welcome to propose others for Life Membership and that the Committee would consider all proposals against the criteria set out in the Constitution. We would then nominate members at the next Annual General Meeting (AGM)\, due to be held in May 2025. \nHowever\, we have since received a proposal from a member for the Committee to consider nominating Ivan Sarich\, a long-standing and valued Club Member\, for Life Membership. There is much sadness and a need for haste in this proposal\, as due to serious ill health\, we are unable to wait until the next AGM. \nGiven Ivan’s long service and contribution to the Club\, the Committee has agreed to nominate Ivan Sarich for Life Membership. \nGiven the extenuating circumstances\, the Committee has agreed to hold a very short SGM for the sole purpose of putting the nomination of Ivan Sarich to be a Life Member of the Club to the membership to vote on. The Committee will present the following motion at the SGM: \n\nThat we invite Ivan Sarich to become a Life Member\, based on his service to the Club and the community\, as noted in the biography presented at the meeting. SUMMARY:Cooking at the Club - Bread and Fish
DESCRIPTION:Cooking at the Club is a new series of events where we’ll aim for everyone to learn\, and to share their skills. If you’re new to cooking\, or cooking Croatian food\, come along and give it a go. If you’re already a great cook\, come and help out. All are welcome\, members or not. This session is free\, but future sessions may have an ingredients charge. \nDave Guerin is organising the sessions and will search out different recipes and usually try two different takes on the same basic idea. He’ll organise the ingredients and there may be a small charge for that. Everyone will get involved in the cooking\, and get a taste of the results. Sessions will probably last about two hours. You need to contact Dave at dave@ed.co.nz or 021 404 334 if you want to come\, so that we can sort out ingredient quantities. \nThis session\, Bread and Fish\, involves simple and yummy Dalmation island dishes – the first two are from Vis and the third is from Hvar. \n\nViška pogača\nKomiška pogača (Dave just made this one\, and you can see the filling below)\nForska pogača\n\nThese three recipes all involve a simple focaccia-like dough (but not as bubbly)\, with a filling in the middle based on fried onions and anchovies. There’s a basic version\, one that adds tomatoes\, and one that adds goat/sheep cheese. If we can do all three\, we will. This session might go a bit long\, but there will be food available partway through.

These are minor wording and format updates\, we are not making any substantive changes to the existing constitution/rules.\nIn recognition of the amazing dedication\, contribution and long service to the Club\, the Committee is nominating two members to Life Member status.
