If there is demand\, we will run a session for children from 3-4pm – contact the Secretary if you are interested.\n\nThe Language Cafe is run by language teacher Maja Krtalić. This is a great opportunity to try learning the Croatian language in a relaxed and informal environment.\n\nOur library will also be open for you to browse\, read and borrow novels\, cookbooks\, children’s books\, CDs and language resources.\n\nLanguage Café has been running since 2021. There is no need to sign up\, just come along. While there is no cost\, a plate to share for afternoon tea would be most welcome.

When women thrive\, we all rise. \nTo show our support and to have some time together\, we would like to invite all women and girls involved with the Croatian Cultural Society to join us for a Women’s Day Luncheon. \nWhat are the details? \n\nSunday 8th March 12.30pm at the Clubrooms\, 32 Hania Street\, Wellington.\nIf you would like to\, please wear something purple to show your support for International Women’s Day.\nA light savoury luncheon will be provided.  If you are able\, please bring a small\, sweet plate to share.\nThere is no charge to attend this event\, and all are welcome.  Please RSVP by Saturday\, 28 February to let us know who is coming and for catering purposes (and please advise any dietary requirements\, thanks).  RSVP by email to: secretary@croatianculturalsocietywgtn.co.nz\nTo support the women of Wellington and to “Give to Gain”\, we will be collecting cash donations on the day to pass on to Wellington Women’s Refuge.\n\n\nWhat happens on the day? \n\nThe Club will be ready and open from 12.15pm.  There will be name tags at the door for you to wear to make it easier to get to know each other.\nOnce everyone has arrived and caught up with each other\, we will take our seats and our Club Treasurer\, Jude Urlich\, will welcome us and outline the event.  We are very fortunate to have two distinguished speakers this year:\n\nNina Nola\, former University of Auckland English literature lecturer\, and author of the book “The Way to Spell Love” a memoir of her Dalmatian family in Auckland\, will talk to us about her book\, as well as showing a short film with inspiring stories about migrant women  Nina will also have copies of her book for sale on the day.\nKate Kolich\, a long-time Club member and currently Head of Data and Artificial Intelligence at Contact Energy\, will give a short presentation about her experiences attending the recent Croatian Woman Leaders Conference in Australia as well as a dinner in Auckland recently.  She will also share about an upcoming dinner that is planned in Wellington with Angela Batistich\, who is the New Zealand board member for the Croatian Women Leaders Forum.\n\n\n\nAfter a fabulous day full of interesting conversations\, information and delicious bites\, we aim to be finished by 4pm.  As always\, help with cleaning up is always appreciated 😊 \n

DESCRIPTION:The much-loved Language Café is back for 2026 and will take place at 3-5pm on the last Saturday of each month from February to November in the club rooms.\n\n3:00pm – 4:00pm – Learning activities for the children; and4:00pm – 5:00pm – Language class for adults.\n\nThe Language Cafe is run by language teacher Maja Krtalić. This is a great opportunity to try learning the Croatian language in a relaxed and informal environment.\n\nOur library will also be open for you to browse\, read and borrow novels\, cookbooks\, children’s books\, CDs and language resources.\n\nLanguage Café has been running since 2021. DESCRIPTION:Dave’s frozen octopus pack has arrived\, so he’ll be running a Taste of Croatia session that will create the octopus salad served at our last Christmas lunch. DESCRIPTION:A group of Croatian and Australian academics are touring NZ Croatian clubs in November\, as a contribution to the celebration of the 1100th anniversary of the coronation of the Croatian King Tomislav. It is part of a project on “Science\, Culture and Economy – Links between Croatian Communities in the World and the Homeland”. \n\n\nThe presentations are on: \n\n\n\n\n\nBrief history of Croatian standard language – Prof. Luka Budak (former Head of Croatian Studies\, Macquarie University); \n\n\n\n\nWorld-renowned Croatian scientists and inventors – Dr. Marijana Borić\, Scientific Advisor (Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts – CASA); \n\n\n\n\nThe Croatian economy from 1992 to the present day – Prof. Tomislava Majić\, Senior Lecturer (University North); and \n\n\n\n\nCroatian language recognition in Australia in 1970s – Prof. Ana Bruning (former lecturer at Croatian Studies\, Macquarie University and long-time Croatian language teacher at the Croatian Schools in Sydney. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe presenters acknowledge the support of Croatian Studies Foundation of Australia\, Central State Office for Croats Outside of the Republic of Croatia\, Foundation of Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
