SUMMARY:SGM to Consider Life Membership for Ivan Sarich
DESCRIPTION:At our last Special General Meeting (SGM) we voted to award Life Membership to two very special people\, Milivoy Hrstich and Joan Barbalich. \nAt the meeting\, the Committee let the membership know that they were welcome to propose others for Life Membership and that the Committee would consider all proposals against the criteria set out in the Constitution. We would then nominate members at the next Annual General Meeting (AGM)\, due to be held in May 2025. \nHowever\, we have since received a proposal from a member for the Committee to consider nominating Ivan Sarich\, a long-standing and valued Club Member\, for Life Membership. There is much sadness and a need for haste in this proposal\, as due to serious ill health\, we are unable to wait until the next AGM. \nGiven Ivan’s long service and contribution to the Club\, the Committee has agreed to nominate Ivan Sarich for Life Membership. \nGiven the extenuating circumstances\, the Committee has agreed to hold a very short SGM for the sole purpose of putting the nomination of Ivan Sarich to be a Life Member of the Club to the membership to vote on. The Committee will present the following motion at the SGM: \n\nThat we invite Ivan Sarich to become a Life Member\, based on his service to the Club and the community\, as noted in the biography presented at the meeting. Life Membership will be confirmed once the invitation is accepted by the nominee.\n\nWe would like to give Notice and invite all members to attend a Special General Meeting at the Club at 5.15pm on the 28th September 2024. This is the same day as the Language Cafe and we hope that this will make it easier for more people to join us from 5pm. As this is a single-issue SGM\, we anticipate it not taking more than 15 minutes. \nWe hope you will join us for this special event. Please feel free to bring a plate to share and the bar will be open too! All going well\, we hope to have the Fistonich Wine orders ready to pick up too. \nOne last thing\, to be able to vote\, you need to be a Full and paid-up Member of the Society. SUMMARY:Cooking at the Club - Bread and Fish
DESCRIPTION:Cooking at the Club is a new series of events where we’ll aim for everyone to learn\, and to share their skills. If you’re new to cooking\, or cooking Croatian food\, come along and give it a go. If you’re already a great cook\, come and help out. All are welcome\, members or not. This session is free\, but future sessions may have an ingredients charge. \nDave Guerin is organising the sessions and will search out different recipes and usually try two different takes on the same basic idea. He’ll organise the ingredients and there may be a small charge for that. Everyone will get involved in the cooking\, and get a taste of the results. Sessions will probably last about two hours. You need to contact Dave at dave@ed.co.nz or 021 404 334 if you want to come\, so that we can sort out ingredient quantities. \nThis session\, Bread and Fish\, involves simple and yummy Dalmation island dishes – the first two are from Vis and the third is from Hvar. \n\nViška pogača\nKomiška pogača (Dave just made this one\, and you can see the filling below)\nForska pogača\n\nThese three recipes all involve a simple focaccia-like dough (but not as bubbly)\, with a filling in the middle based on fried onions and anchovies. There’s a basic version\, one that adds tomatoes\, and one that adds goat/sheep cheese. If we can do all three\, we will. This session might go a bit long\, but there will be food available partway through.

DESCRIPTION:The Executive would like to give Notice and invite all members to attend a Special General Meeting at the Club at 3pm on the 27th July 2024.\nThis is the same day as the Language Café and we hope that this will make it easier for more people to join us. We aim to make the meeting as straightforward as possible and we are hoping that it will not take more than half an hour\, which leaves us time for a cup of tea and a slice of cake before Adult Language lessons with Maja at 4pm.\nWe are holding a Special General Meeting for two reasons:\n\nDespite all the amazing hard work put in by the previous Committee to update the Club’s Constitution & Rules to meet the requirements of the new Incorporated Societies Act 2022\, the Registrar has notified us that we still have areas of non-compliance with the new Act that we need to address. These are minor wording and format updates\, we are not making any substantive changes to the existing constitution/rules.\nIn recognition of the amazing dedication\, contribution and long service to the Club\, the Committee is nominating two members to Life Member status. It has reached the final or semifinal or final of the last two men’s football World Cups. This game is the third and final Euro 2024 group stage game\, but it’s the first one at a good time for us to gather. DESCRIPTION:At the November Language Café\, 32 Hania Street Wellington – special guests Ivana Hebrang-Grgić and Ana Barbarić from the University of Zagreb Croatia\, will be visiting us and run several activities including a book presentation and an exhibition. \nThere will be activities for children (3 to 3:45pm) and adults (4 to 5pm) followed by a social hour. \nPlease join us at the Club to welcome Ivana and Ana\, hear about how Croats in New Zealand communicated through the years\, and learn more about the old Croatian script called Glagoljica or Glagolitic script \nBook Presentation – Ivana and Ana recently published a book in English titled “Their Faraway Home: The Story of Croats in New Zealand Through Publications”. They will talk us through selected interesting stories and Croats in New Zealand\, their families\, their cultural and other social activities \nExhibition “They Wrote in Glagolitic Script…” Ivana and Ana will present a small exhibition and explain the origins of the Glagolitic Script. The aim of the exhibition is to display and promote Croatian Glagolitic heritage\, Croatian language\, history and culture through texts written in the Glagolitic Script. The audience will be given QR Codes to access some additional sources\, including computer games for learning the Glagolitic Script
