DESCRIPTION:Our beloved Language Café for 2025 will take place from 3-5pm on the last Saturday of each month in 2025.\n\nOur wonderful language teacher Maja Krtalić is happy to share her knowledge with and help those that would like to  learn more about and to practice speaking the Croatian language (Hrvatski jezik).  People of all language abilities is welcome to come along – it is great to see Club members sharing their knowledge and learning together. \n\n\n3:00pm – 3:45pm – Fun and learning for the children\n4:00pm – 5:00pm – Language class for adults of all abilities.\n\nPlease come along to your session 10 minutes early to grab a drink and get settled in so we are seated and ready to go at 3pm or 4pm.  There is no cost to attend\, however you are most welcome to bring a plate of afternoon tea or snacks to share.\n\nWe will likely change some days if they clash with public holidays or other events. Other events are sometimes scheduled after Language Cafe\, and the bar is usually open.

DESCRIPTION:The next Taste of Croatia session will feature Chelsea Ljutić\, a Canadian Croatian who is here in NZ on a working holiday visa. She chatted to us at SlavFest and later offered to share her nona’s njoki recipe – we said yes immediately 🙂 \n\n\nThe session will be run from 2-4pm on Sunday 12 October. Contact Dave Guerin (dave@ed.co.nz or 021 404 334) if you’d like to come along. Attendance is open to all\, but we want to make sure we have enough food. \n\n\nOur Taste of Croatia cooking sessions are mainly a demonstration\, but we try to get people involved as much as possible. It’s a chance to learn about the history of a dish\, how its made\, and then try it at the end. There’s usually a few gaps for us to have a good chat. We start with a cuppa and the bar is often open towards the end.

DESCRIPTION:A group of Croatian and Australian academics are touring NZ Croatian clubs in November\, as a contribution to the celebration of the 1100th anniversary of the coronation of the Croatian King Tomislav. It’s a wonderful chance to engage with new ideas. \n\n\nThey will be at our club on Wednesday 26 November at 5.30pm (for a 6pm presentation). It is part of a project on “Science\, Culture and Economy – Links between Croatian Communities in the World and the Homeland”. \n\n\nThe presentations are on: \n\n\n\n\n\nBrief history of Croatian standard language – Prof. Luka Budak (former Head of Croatian Studies\, Macquarie University); \n\n\n\n\nWorld-renowned Croatian scientists and inventors – Dr. Marijana Borić\, Scientific Advisor (Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts – CASA); \n\n\n\n\nThe Croatian economy from 1992 to the present day – Prof. Tomislava Majić\, Senior Lecturer (University North); and \n\n\n\n\nCroatian language recognition in Australia in 1970s – Prof. Ana Bruning (former lecturer at Croatian Studies\, Macquarie University and long-time Croatian language teacher at the Croatian Schools in Sydney. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe presenters acknowledge the support of Croatian Studies Foundation of Australia\, Central State Office for Croats Outside of the Republic of Croatia\, Foundation of Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

DESCRIPTION:You are invited to the 14 Dec 2025 Christmas lunch for the Croatian Cultural Society Wellington. It is the club’s biggest day of the year\, and we look forward to seeing you there. Bookings are now open at our Google Form – we need bookings and payment by 30 November. \nThe main course will be largely catered\, but we: \n\nhave volunteers making ćevapi\, octopus salad and punjene paprike/stuffed peppers to add a Croatian flavour; and\ninvite members to bring a dessert plate to share\, whether it’s from Croatia\, NZ or elsewhere.\n\nWe are planning to cater for different dietary requirements\, so please put down any needs on the booking form. \nTiming \n\n\n\n11am\nCroatian Mass\nFr Bozjak is coming down from Auckland to give a Mass in Croatian at St Anne’s Church (22 Emmett St\, Newtown). He will join us for lunch afterwards.\n\n\n12pm\nClub doors open\nThe club doors open at 12pm at 32 Hania St\, Mt Victoria. Father Christmas – Djed Božićnjak 🧑‍🎄visits before lunch is served (parents\, don’t forget to bring a named and wrapped gift for your child to pop under the tree for them).\n\n\nAbout 12.30pm\nLunch starts\nA buffet main course will be served.
